Position Highlights

Head Greenkeeper. Responsible for the condition of the golf course, your core purpose is to deliver healthy, playable turf through sound agronomy, efficient operations and careful budgeting. You will plan the annual maintenance program, manage turf health, irrigation and ecology, lead the greenkeeping team, uphold health and safety standards and report to the committee.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and execute a comprehensive annual maintenance plan, including aeration (hollow coring), top-dressing and overseeding
• Identify and treat turf diseases, such as Fusarium or Dollar Spot, and pests using Integrated Pest Management to minimize chemical use
• Oversee the operation, maintenance and programming of the irrigation system for optimal moisture levels
• Manage out-of-play areas such as rough, woodland and heather to promote biodiversity and wildlife habitats
• Direct and motivate the greenkeeping team, ensuring work meets the highest standard within set timeframes
• Create daily and weekly work rosters that account for tournaments, weather forecasts and staff holidays
• Ensure all operations comply with health and safety legislation, including risk assessments and COSHH standards
• Prepare and manage the annual greens budget, tracking machinery, chemical, fuel and labor costs
• Maintain a rolling machinery replacement program to keep equipment modern and efficient
• Attend committee meetings to give technical updates and explain course conditions

Requirements, Skills & Traits

Requirements:

High school diploma. At least 8 years in greenkeeping, with at least 3 years in a supervisory role. Certifications in PA1, PA2 and PA6 safe use of pesticides. NVQ Level 3 or 4 in Sports Turf Management, or equivalent. Fluent in English, Spanish and Dutch. Must hold a Dutch passport or a valid work permit.

Core Skills:

Deep understanding of soil science, drainage and irrigation hydraulics. Turf disease and pest management. Understanding of golf rules and etiquette for course playability. Basic machinery knowledge, budgeting and good computer skills.

Soft Skills:

Good communication and team leadership skills. Adaptable, able to change plans quickly as weather patterns shift.

Success Metrics

The course is consistently healthy and playable, maintenance is completed on schedule, the greens budget is on target, safety standards are met, and the committee is kept well informed.
