The Grounds Department is responsible for creating the resort’s vital first impression, maintaining high standards of cleanliness, safety, and landscape aesthetics across all guest-facing and operational areas.
Position Highlights
Grounds Attendant. Reporting directly to the Grounds Supervisor, you will perform essential gardening, landscaping, and outdoor maintenance duties across the resort property. In this hands-on role, you will care for plants, bushes, and lawns, operate specialized landscaping tools, support pool area setups, and preserve clean, orderly, and attractive surroundings for our members and guests.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain, water, prune, and fertilize flowers, bushes, trees, and lawns throughout the property
- Assist in planting activities, assess garden needs, and provide input on plant supply quantities
- Inspect designated resort areas regularly to clear trash, leaves, and debris using leaf blowers, hand tools, and proper disposal protocols
- Safely operate a variety of gardening tools and equipment, including mowers, chain saws, hedge trimmers, sprayers, loppers, and irrigation systems
- Identify plant diseases and insect pests, applying approved chemical spray treatments, fertilizers, and pest controls safely
- Maintain guest-facing features, such as the bird sanctuary, waterfall areas, and pool surrounds, in clean and orderly condition
- Organize and set up lounge chairs and pool equipment as directed by departmental leadership
- Utilize water from chillers safely with appropriate nozzles to support sustainable irrigation practices
- Adhere strictly to resort Green policies (reduce, re-use, recycle, restore) and safety reporting regulations
- Wear the required uniform and name tag, maintaining a clean and well-groomed personal appearance
Requirements, Skills & Traits
Requirements:
High School diploma (EPB or MAVO) required. Minimum of 2 to 3 years of practical experience in gardening, landscaping, or groundskeeping. Full fluency in reading, writing, speaking, and comprehending both English and Papiamento is strictly required. Basic computer skills. Must be physically fit with high levels of strength and stamina to perform heavy outdoor physical work in warm tropical weather conditions. Applicants must hold valid legal authorization to work in Aruba.
Core Skills:
Solid knowledge of tropical plant species, gardening techniques, pest/disease control, and irrigation methods. Practical skill in operating power tools and equipment, including lawn mowers, chain saws, trimmers, and chemical sprayers. Thorough understanding of safety standards, chemical handling, personal protective equipment (PPE), and resort layout.
Soft Skills:
Self-motivated, reliable, and capable of working on own initiative with minimal supervision. Friendly, polite, and service-oriented demeanor when interacting with resort guests and colleagues. High attention to detail, strong safety consciousness, and an enjoyment of outdoor work and practical hand skill development.
Success Metrics
Resort lawns, garden beds, waterfall areas, and bird sanctuaries are consistently clean, healthy, and visually appealing. Landscaping tools and equipment are operated safely and maintained in proper working order. Pool area equipment and lounge chairs are organized promptly according to operational standards.
