Step-by-step route · Coming to Aruba

An Aruba internship starts with a plan.

Studying abroad? Get school approval, a host and an agreement first. Then the DIMAS residence route, and the practical arrangements, before you book anything.

In short

  • Your institution approves the placement first.
  • DIMAS decides admission and residence, not Aruba Jobs.
  • DIMAS sources differ on duration and housing: ask.

Ask first

These bodies decide. Check with them before you rely on any step.

Check before you act: the official sources differ

Aruba Jobs has not chosen between them. Only the authority can say which applies to you.

Your timeline

  1. Your own institution first

Ask your internship coordinator to confirm that the placement fits your programme, the learning goals, the credit and the agreement. A host's offer is not academic approval.

  2. The DIMAS residence route

DIMAS publishes a residence route for interns enrolled at an institution abroad. The page says you must be an adult, enrolled outside Aruba and able to show you can support yourself. Aruba has its own admission system, so do not assume your nationality removes these steps: ask DIMAS.

  3. The agreement

The DIMAS checklist asks for an internship agreement between your institution, the Aruban host and you. It must state the internship period and give the contact details of the supervisor in Aruba.

  4. Money, cover and housing

The checklist asks for proof that you can support yourself for the whole stay: a study-finance award (a grant or a loan) and/or proof that your parents can cover the costs. You also need private insurance that covers medical treatment and liability for the whole internship. For funding, see the Kingdom Scholarship below.

  5. Optional help

Private providers, such as Abroad Internships, sell matching and logistics help. They are optional and cannot replace school approval or DIMAS. Compare fees, refund terms and privacy first. AIESEC says it works in more than 100 countries, but Aruba is not among the destinations on its Netherlands page.
