Job Description
Position: LOSS PREVENTION OFFICER
Department: Loss Prevention
Department description: The Loss Prevention department ensures the safety and security of all guests, employees, their property, the hotel building and the equipment contained within it.
Position summary: A Loss Prevention Officer ensures that no loss is experienced to hotel guests and employees, property or premises. This person will be patrolling the property, monitoring, writing routine and incident reports, responding to medical, fire and other emergency situations. This officer works all 3 regular shifts including night shift.
Position in the organization:
Immediate supervisor: Manager Loss Prevention.
Essential duties and responsibilities:
- Inspect buildings, grounds, equipment (Parking lot, stores, lobby, pool area, beach area, tennis courts and construction sites), personnel and access to ensure protection from intruders, fire hazards, theft, and vandalism by a. Patrolling the property b. Monitoring surveillance equipment c. Control on entries
- Answer alarm calls, inspect and write up.
- Assist guests when they need answers to their questions.
- Intervene between guests to resolve issues in a calm and professional manner.
- Know how to operate locks, door and safe.
- Open guest room doors for guests and inspect door lock if necessary.
- Change battery of door locks or safes if necessary.
- In charge of the opening of the safe when the code is lost and solve any security or safety issue related to the safes this in accordance with the Playa Linda Beach Resort standards.
- In case required monitoring all security camera feed and note all discrepancies and report them to the manager or supervisor of LP or other management. Inspect buildings and grounds to ensure protection from intruders, fire hazards, theft, and vandalism. Parking lot, stores, lobby, pool area, beach area, tennis courts and construction sites.
- Log in and investigate incidents and accidents.
- Report all incidents and accidents to the manager LP or other management. Make reports accordingly of the record of the incident or accident that occurred.
- Make sure people are following the safety rules. If job related actions occur according to set forth procedures.
- Perform a variety of security and safety related functions while involved in the safeguarding of guests, members, employees, visitors and property.
- Exercise independent judgement in the implementation and enforcement of laws, regulations and policies.
- Conduct follow-up investigations on reports of criminal activities and violations of safety standards, adjust and fill in follow up details.
- Call the guest after the incident or accident to see how they are doing and if we can be of any assistance. Show some TLC (Tender, Love and Care) to the guest.
- Make sure that no unauthorized people make use of the Playa Linda facilities.
- Opens, closes and is in charge of the lights of the tennis courts. Control, log in and report all discrepancies during their respective shift.
- Operate two-way communications system in order to remain in constant radio contact with other security personnel.
- Always be polite on the radio. Show respect to other colleagues. Give only necessary information on the radio.
- Control all emergency stations and First Aid boxes throughout the whole resort on a weekly basis.
- Control all fire extinguishers in the rooms, offices and public areas together with an authorized outside inspector on a Monthly basis.
- Assist in changing and inspecting LP equipment throughout the entire resort.
- Ensure that all bags taken out by employees are subject to controls each day, including those of management.
- Do not share Playa Linda information to a third party. Keep present the confidentiality agreement to protect the company and your interest.
- Adhere to the safety policy of the company, reports all incidents immediately regardless of the level of severity of the incident.
- Adhere to the Green policies. Reduce, re-use, recycle & restore (carton, cans, newspapers).
Keep in mind that everyone is a housekeeper.
It is clearly understood that the above mentioned tasks and responsibilities are not limitative and that the Employer may require from you to perform other/and or additional tasks to the benefit of the Resort’s operations.
Position requirements:
Education: EPB or higher
Experience: 3 years in the security business
Skills:
Knowledge:
- Emergency procedures; how to act.
- Basic principles and practices of building security
- Develop a detailed knowledge about the alarm systems, radio equipment, telephone/walkie-talkies and fire report procedure, the layout of the resort. Laws, regulations, and policies of the resort.
- First aid, CPR and fire training. Basic self-defense training.
Communication skills:
- Customer service skills
- Answer questions from guests; be a good communicator
- Read, write, speak and comprehend English, Spanish, Dutch and Papiamento languages.
- Ability to apply active listening techniques in order to obtain complete and accurate information. Make accurate reports based on acquired information.
Social skills:
- Friendly and helpful
- Be motivated and self-confident.
- Be able to work in a team.
Computer skills: Basic computer skills, CCTV camera Playback and Windows media player.
Independence:
- Work independently with limited supervision.
- Respects the privacy from guests. Make no unnecessary check- up.
- Able to work effectively under highly stressful conditions.
- Able to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
- Make decisions after first checking with the manager of LP.
- Be flexible.
- Be a self-starter.
Personal appearance:
- Wear the proper uniform. Make sure it’s clean and ironed.
- Wear name-tag.
- Maintain a clean and groomed appearance.
Physical requirement/Working conditions:
- Stand and walk for long periods of time.
- Be able to restrain people.
